Robbers, bluebirds and goblins, Oh my!

I mentioned before that I had Christmas play costumes to make.
Well the schools production of Hansel & Gretel took place Monday & Tuesday, so here they are.

Tabatha was a robber.

El Bandito

Even before receiving the brief from the school, I had decided to go down the "Burglar Bill" route.
Her stripey top came off ebay (with an accompaning cardigan... bargain!), the eye mask I did try to make myself but gave up so got Ian to go to the costume shop and buy one.
The contentious moustache that Tabatha did nothing but moan about ("It's itchy, It's sticky, People are laughing at me, I want to be a girl robber") also came from ebay.

Ria was a bird.
I scoured pinterst for inspiration here and found this great tutorial for a bluebird costume.
Obviously it didn't have to be a bluebird, but I happened to have a blue sheet going spare, so blue she was.

Very blue.
Scarily blue.

Scary Bird

Evil smurf bird blue!
I made a pair of fleece shorts to match the vest part of the costume and added some yellow footless tights from Claires Accesories, via ebay at 90% off the RRP. (Whooppedy Toot Toot!)

Baylie was a goblin.

Goblin

And I did nothing apart form put her in a pair of purple leggings and add some green face paint warts.
The school provided the tunic and the hat (which is techically an elf hat not a goblin hat, and they didn't tell me they had hats until after I'd made some long pointy and bendable ears, that personally I was really proud off but that are now redundant! I'm not bitter... honest!)

Baylie Goblin

The purple leggings were for the "Green goblin" look and it also allowed me to spot her very easily when she was up on stage singing and dancing.

Baylie on Stage

Amazingly she did both. I expected Baylie to freeze, pull the face and refuse to sing. But bless her little cotton socks, she got up there and danced around the cooking pot (she was one of the witch's little goblin helpers) and sung her little heart out.

On a different note, I do not recommend sitting through a children school play if you are running a 38.2 temperature like I was... It will mess with your fevered, befuddled mind and give the wierdest dreams!
I am feeling a bit better today though.
